Intel still reigns supreme

According to iSuppli, AMD has slipped off the list of the world's top ten chipmakers, following a 7.8 percent revenue drop in 2008.

Its rival, Intel is still going strong and leads the pack, with a 13.8 percent market share in 2008. Its revenues for the same year were $33.8 billion, while AMD managed $5.46 billion. Intel is being trailed by Samsung, with a 6.5 percent market share.

Most chimpakers reported a sharp drop in revenue in 2008, however there were exceptions. Qualcomm jumped to 8th place from last year's 13th, and its revenue increased by 15.3 percent.

Worldwide chip revenues declined 5.2 percent in 2008.
