He didn’t do it for the cash

A rumor
that sent Apple shares tumbling was faked by a teenager who didn’t do it to make a killing on the stock market.

The 18 year-old submitted a fake story to CNN's iReport about Steve Jobs having a heart attack. The report was picked up by Silicon Alley, which published it before verifying whether it was true.

Investigators have determined that the teenager planted the story on CNN's user-generated news site. But they have found no evidence that the suspect attempted to profit from the sharp drop in Apple's stock.

It looks like the teen in question did the whole thing for a laugh, unaware that punters were a little nervy about whether Apple can survive after Steve Jobs leaves or croaks.
