Gitex 2008: Let the dry branch fall on its own
Nvidia is too clever to go out and announce a radical cut to only six partners. They will chose a less radical method that will lead to the same goal.
The six that we’ve mentioned on Monday will get special treatment. Our sources are saying that they will give them better pricing, first allocation, design kits in advance of anyone else, making it very hard for anyone who is not in the inner circle to have good sales.
The other players will have a chance, but they will have to fight very hard for their bare survival. So, instead of radically cutting them off, Nvidia wants to make remaining partners work really hard and eventually fight for their position under Nvidia’s wing.
The key goal of this special six strategy is to allow key partners safe passage through the storm and to ensure they have healthy growth, and make some money in the process.
