Sapphire says it starts at €265

Sapphire’s Mediterranean PR managed to produce a rather nice document with some numbers as to how much you need to spend for CrossfireX.

The cheapest Radeon 3870 with 512MB GDDR3 from Sapphire sells for €120, and two of them will cost €240; three-way CrossfireX will cost €360 and ultimately, four-way Crossfire X with four cards will cost €480.

We are quite sure that four HD 3870 512MB GDDR3 cards can challenge even the performance of Nvidia's flagship Geforce 9800 GX2 card.

The most expensive Toxic edition Sapphire HD 3870 512MB cards with GDDR4 memory, or the silent Ultimate card, cost €150 and four of them will cost €600.

Furthermore, Sapphire's 770 Crossfire motherboard costs €85 and with two Sapphire 3870 512MB cards at €240 you are talking about €325 for the whole Crossfire bare bones. This is actually not that much money for such a fast graphics subsystem.

If you want the cheapest Crossfire the board price remains at €85, while two HD3850 512MB will cost 200€ and this combination will set you back €285. If you pick two HD3850 256MB cards you will end up spending €265 or €20 less.

We don’t really know if Crossfire can get any cheaper than this and still offer decent performance.

All prices include VAT.
