Chilled by Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme

Inno3D
has officially launched its i-Chill 9800GTX Accelero Xtreme card. This card is cooled by Arctic Cooling's Accelero Xtreme that features no less than three 80mm PWM fans. This behemoth definitely looks huge with the Accelero strapped onto it.

For some unknown reason, the specs on the Web site and the specs in the press release differ, so we aren't sure which are the right ones. The Web site states that the card works at 740MHz for the GPU and that it comes with 512MB of GDDR3 memory clocked at 1,140MHz (2,280MHz effective). The press release changes these specs to 720MHz for the core and 1,150MHz (2,300MHz effective) for the same 512MB of GDDR3 memory.

In both cases it looks like the Accelero Xtreme is doing a great job in cooling this card. Besides the mentioned trio of 80mm PWM fans, the Accelero Xtreme has no less than five heat pipes that go through 107 aluminum fins.

It cools the memory, VRM and, of course, the GPU. To further improve the cooling, the new i-Chill 9800GTX comes with pre-applied MX2 thermal paste from Arctic Cooling.

According to the press release, this cooler is capable of dissipating up to 240W of heat. In that same press release Inno3D also claims that this cooler lowers the temperature by at least 20 degrees compared to the reference cooler. Thanks to the Arctic Cooling patents, like its fan holder and low noise impellor design, this cooler has lower noise levels than the reference cooler from Nvidia.

Unfortunately, the availability date and the suggested retail price for this card are still unknown.
