According to iSuppli's latest figures, the global PC market in Q1 has jumped by 22.7 percent year-on-year. The market ate up 81.5 million units, compared to last year's 66.5 million over the same period.

iSupply principal analyst Matthew Wilkins said that the quarter delivered the highest year-on-year growth since iSuppli started tracking the market in 2003. “This record growth resulted from strong sales in the first quarter of 2010 combined with weak conditions during the first three months of 2009. Early 2009 represented one of the weakest periods in the history of the PC market, as consumer and corporate demand plunged due to the economic downturn. With economic conditions improving, PC sales rebounded in early 2010.”

Asus, Samsung, Lenovo and Acer posted the strongest growth. Asus led the way with 136.2 percent, while Lenovo and Acer grew by 58.5 and 47.1 percent respectively. Acer has managed to close in on HP. It grabbed 13.3 percent of the global market, while HP managed to hold on to 19.6 percent.

Apple has also done rather well. Its shipments jumped 32.4 percent from last year, but its global market share is still rather low, 3.4 percent.
