HP is
planning to refresh its ironically entitled Integrity server range. The maker of outrageously priced printer ink has hinted that it will use Intel's quad-core "Tukwila" processors which were launched in February. This will allow HP to update its Integrity servers with a more modern, modular design that lets customers scale them more easily and reduce ownership costs.

Integrity customers have been waiting a long time for any changes. Other than moderately faster processors, HP hasn't made significant changes to most of the systems since the Integrity brand was introduced in 2003. The high-end Superdome server has had the same chassis since its introduction ten years ago.

Intel will be hoping that its Itanium brand gets a lift from the new systems. HP is by far the biggest seller of Itanium-based servers
