Performance too spotty

Job's mob
has released a new version of Snow Leopard which is supposed to fix all the flaws that were under the bonnet of the beast for the last year.

In comparison to Leopard, Snow Leopard was buggy, and in comparison to Tiger it was practically unstable. It seems without admitting any liability for its shonky programming, Apple has tried to fix all the bugs with an update.

The only problem is that the update is so huge that it practically rewrites the entire software and this 438MB heavy 10.6.3 update is a tribute to the genius that is Steve Jobs. In other words, cover your embarrassment with a huge software rewrite and hope that everyone will not notice. At least when Microsoft does this it calls it a service pack so that users  know their machines are going to start doing something a bit different.

To be fair to Apple, the patch does make improvements to the OS X 3D graphics engine. Apparently this makes VMware 3D work much better. There are also new drivers for ATI video cards. It is not clear however if these changes will do anything for those who do not use virtualisation.

Other changes have been made to the address book, automator, the dashboard, the dictionary, front row, image capture, Audio MIDI Setup, ColorSync Utility, disk utility and Spaces.

So far it is too early to tell what effect the changes Jobs Mob has done. To be honest we would not mind if people had not made such a big deal about Snow Leopard being perfect when it launched.
