Microsoft's profits have increased by seven per cent thanks to an increase in demand for its Office software package. The company saw improved results from its online operations.
These figures more than compensated for a $US1.1 billion charge to repair Xbox game consoles.
Microsoft made $US3.04 billion in its fiscal fourth quarter, up from $US2.83 billion the year-earlier. Sales rose 13 per cent to $US13.4 billion.
In a press release the company insisted that it was seeing a strong strong adoption of its new Windows Vista operating system and Office 2007 business software.
