February 2nd will end online play for older titles

At first we had heard that this was nothing more than a rumor, but we can now confirm that Electronic Arts will be following though with its past trend of taking down the online servers of older titles that the are no longer being played. This action is in keeping with their terms of online service when you buy a game and, of course, the offline modes will continue to function, so technically the game is playable, just not playable online.

As you can see, the majority of the titles affected are sports games. The title that will likely leave many scratching their heads is the decision to shut down the NASCAR 09 servers on some platforms, given the fact that EA is not planning to release another NASCAR game in the immediate future. Beyond this, most of the titles are rather old, so we are not really surprised by this move, as EA has done it many times in the past. If you have any achievements to get from any of these titles, you had better act quickly and get them before the servers are shut down.
