Many unhappy with Game of the Year pick

Uncharted 2 picked as Game of the Year

It seems that the Spike Video Game Awards have created some unhappiness due to the puzzling results, which gave the top honor of Game of the Year to Uncharted 2. Prior to the actual show most had already given the top award to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, which is what it should have been in the opinion of most.

To complicate the matter, Uncharted 2 was also given the awards for Best Graphics and Best PlayStation 3 game. While no one is going to dispute that it was the Best PlayStation 3 game, and maybe you could even make a serious case for the fact that it might have deserved the award for Best Graphics, the problem is that sales numbers don’t lie; and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has the sales numbers to back up the fact that it should have been named Game of the Year.

Our sources tell us that some at Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward are scratching their heads on how this could have come about. CODMW2 managed only to walk away with the Best Shooter award, which (to be honest) is far less than the title deserved.

Uncharted 2 developer Naughty Dog seemed quite surprised to be able to clean up with three awards. While we don’t want to suggest that the developer had anything to do with the wins, because Uncharted 2 is an excellent title, we have to wonder if the ballot box was stuffed in favor of Uncharted 2. As many told us after the show ended and they got over the shock, it just doesn’t seem possible that CODMW2 didn’t win.

We suspect that we will see some additional comments and disclosure about the voting process over the next few days. Our two cents will have to side with others, due to the fact that it just seems criminal that CODMW2 didn’t win this honor; and we, too, are puzzled by how the platform with the lowest installed user base could receive enough votes for their exclusive company-funded title to come out on top. While we congratulate developer Naughty Dog on their win, at the same time we express our sincere condolences to developer Infinity Ward at the loss.
