File sharing site Mininova has been forced to comply with a Dutch court
ruling ordering the outfit to remove links to illegal content.
The court concluded that Mininova's notice and take down policy was not
sufficient to keep its operation legal, so it resorted to somewhat more
draconian mesures. The site was ordered to take down all links except
the ones found its 'featured content' service, which are legal.
Mininova said it was considering an appeal against the court order, but
that it has no choice other than to take their platform offline, at
least for now.
The move might be a small victory for the music and film industry,
dozens of similar sites keep operating, and when one is taken down,
another one usually takes its place in a matter of days.
