Danger/Microsoft able to get most data back

In a surprising turn of events, Danger and Microsoft have now announced that a good portion of users’ Sidekick data has apparently been recovered. From what we have been able to find out, they have not been able to get back everything but apparently the majority of the data has been recovered.

Right now Danger/Microsoft is undergoing a process to validate the data and test the ability to restore the data to customer devices. Once restoration validation has been completed, they will start restoring data beginning with personal contacts. Then they will continue to work around the clock to restore all of the additional data including calendar, notes, photographs, and, of course, high scores as soon as possible.

While none of our sources seem to know what caused the entire issue in the first place, the party line continues to be a “system failure” that was at fault. We have to wonder why the data backups as well as the system recovery plan that Danger/Microsoft had in place seemed to fail so badly. What we do know is that T-Mobile customers will be getting a free month of service as well as a $100 credit for the entire mess. The news seems to have no effect on the suspended sales of the Sidekick by T-Mobile. as the company is still not selling any new units at this time.
