The people who make printer ink which is more costly than
gold have decided that it should be making more money from the
Glorious People's Republic of China.
According to
Digitimes HP has changed its plans for the Asia Pacific PC market
and is looking at improving sales in China. Chin Teik, senior vice president of personal systems
group, HP Asia Pacific and Japan said that demand in China and India in
the second quarter of 2009 helped the company gain a 15.3 per cent
stake in the Asia Pacific PC market and he wants a bigger slice of the
action.
He said that there was gold in “them there hills” as HP's
combined revenues for notebooks in Southeast Asia and China in the
second quarter grew 14.9 per cent on year. He thinks that the Chinese government's consumer
electronics promotion program in rural areas will give HP's PC shipments in
China a boost.
HP has signed a deal with China Telecom, China mobile and
China Unicom to sell its ultra-thin notebooks and netbooks bundled
with 3G services. The next phase is to expand its sales sites to over 2,000
cities across China by the end of 2009, up from the current 700 cities,
and will establish 385 service centers to promote sales.
