Finally, a Mac version will be released soon

From the land of BlackBerry we can finally confirm that RIM is putting the finishing touches on the first release of BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac. RIM dropped an official announcement this afternoon after we had been hearing unconfirmed rumors about the existence of BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac for some time.

It will arrive only for Mac systems that are running OS X version 10.5.5 or higher, and will offer syncing of iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks from the Mac. It will also be able to install and remove BlackBerry applications and update your BlackBerry with the latest firmware when it is released.

It is said that it will handle multiple BlackBerry devices and, of course, offer backup and restore support, as well. However, it will not offer everything that the Windows version currently offers in the first release for the Mac platform.

From our understanding it is slated to arrive in September if testing goes well. Many predicted that the Desktop Manager for Mac was in development when RIM released the Media Sync for Mac back in December, but RIM was very quiet about the development of a version of Desktop Manager till now. Our sources tell us that RIM will make the September date, but it is unlikely that they will do a public beta release prior to launching the actual release code.
