British tabloids get knickers in twist

British tabloids are fuming over a new Apple application which allows teenagers to access softcore pornography via the iPhone. The Daily Mail spits that the 'Hottest Girls' package, costs little more than a cup of coffee at £1.19, is an X-rated version of an older application that used to offer bikini and lingerie shots.

You have to be aged 17 and over to get the application, but this , the tabloids worry, depends on iPhone users telling the truth about their age when they sign up to the App Store. The weak point in the story is that parents can set controls on the new iPhone3GS that will stop the controversial app appearing.

But that has not stopped the papers ringing around various parents groups who universally said they were “appalled”.
Miranda Suit, co-founder of the voluntary watchdog MediaMarch told MailOnline she was very concerned about the mainstreaming of pornography. Kids apparently are not equipped to deal with such content.

She added that there was a growing number of sex addicts to whom turning on an iPhone will be a risk now. Of course they are not children, and it is also extremely dangerious crossing the street. Sheesh, in my day it used to be copies of Penthouse behind the back of the bike shed but rest assured - iPhone or not, if a kid wants porn he or she will find it.
