Sans the expect launch event that we predicted

Apple just could not wait, and they have charged ahead and refreshed pretty much all of their hardware in the computing line. The new iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro were all released, as well as a new AirPort Extreme Base Station and Time Capsule refreshes.

As far as the Mac Mini and the iMac goes, we got pretty much all of that right in our story yesterday; the only news of note is the iMac’s video graphics choices. The two lower-end iMac models will both get the Geforce 9400M, while the 2.93GHz model will get a GeForce GT 120 and the highest-end model will get the GeForce GT 130. As a cost option the iMac will also have an AMD Radeon HD 4850.

The new Mac Pro will come in two flavors. The $2,499 version features a 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 3500 processor with 3GB of RAM with the Nvidia GeForce GT120. The $3,200 version will turn the volume up with two 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5500 processors with 6GB of RAM and the Nvidia GT 120. Both versions of the Mac Pro will offer an upgrade to the ATI Radeon HD 4870 (for an extra charge, of course) if you need even more graphics performance.

Apple also dropped an updated AirPort Extreme Base Station and Time Capsule. The latest version has been upgraded to support simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5 GHz dual-band networking for the best options in performance as well as range and compatibility. The new versions also provide new software with new features such as “Guest Access” and “Mobile-Me” access for files.

We are not sure why Apple chose not to do an actual launch event, but with all the cost savings going on these days, perhaps they just felt it was better to get the show on the road and start selling the new models, rather than spending all of that money on a launch event.
