Also plans a thin, $700 13.3-incher
Gigabyte has revealed a bit more info on its upcoming 10.1-inch netbooks, which are to be showcased at CeBIT 2009.
We can look forward to three quite different concepts, a tablet design,
a classic netbook and an ultra thin model which will no doubt turn
heads.
Gigabyte's first crack at the netbook market came in the guise of the
M912 series with a swivel touchscreen, but unfortunately it didn't do
quite well, as consumers opted for cheaper models with regular panels.
Still, Gigabyte isn't abandoning this market niche in the new series,
and the Touch Note T1028 will feature a touch sensitive screen. It will
be based on Intel's N270/945GSE combo and should launch March 20 with
prices starting at $514.
The Booktop M1022 will not feature a toucscreen, but it will be
slightly cheaper, and along with the entry level N270/945GSE model,
future SKUs will use the new N280 CPU and GN40 chipset. It should be
priced at $484 to $514.
The Thin Note S1024 is probably the most interesting of the lot. It
will be based on the N270 and 945GSE and will feature either a 60GB or
80GB hard drive. Its most interesting feature, however, is its low
weight of just 890g. This makes it the lightest 10-inch netbook on the
market, a full 110g lighter than Asus' Eee PC S101. It will be cheap
too, and should launch at $484, although the company claims it will
launch yet another version aimed at emerging markets, which will cost
under $400.
Gigabyte aslo said it will launch an in-house developed 13.3-inch ultra
thin netbook based on Intel's CULV platform. It should be unveiled at
CeBIT, at a price of just $717. Sounds quite appealing, considering the
screen acreage.
