A perfect opportunity to maul AMD

In an interview with Fox Business, Intel CFO Stacy Smith told the world plus dog that the recession is a perfect opportunity to increase its lead over rival chipmaker AMD.

Smith said that the downturn took its toll on Intel in October, and that the state of the economy is "grim", but found some optimism in the fact that the supply chain is adjusting a bit faster than in previous recessions. He went on to say that Intel will try to keep its workforce at current levels, weeks after the company had announced significant layoffs, and that Intel's staff is 20 percent smaller than three years ago.

Smith claims Intel is committed to significant investments, in an effort to increase its advantage over competitors, primarily AMD. He thinks Intel's ability to invest in the midst of a recession will allow the company to further strengthen its dominant position in the sector. He also commended the new US administration for its focus on tech and infrastructure.
