Service Pack 2 for Vista on hold
Delayed until May or June, say our sources
For those waiting for the second service pack for Windows Vista, you are going to be waiting a bit longer, according to our source, because it will likely not hit release until late May or early June. It is now expected that Service Pack 2 for Vista will not go gold until at least April. With all of the delays, this translates into Service Pack 2 for Vista slipping by a little more than a month.
As for why Service Pack 2 for Vista is being delayed, our source tells us that the issue or issues that might be causing the delay are unknown at this time. Even when Service Pack 2 for Vista is released to manufacturing, following normal procedures it will be as many as a couple of weeks before you can download it.
As we reported previously the Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista will be for a variety of stability, performance and security related fixes, as well as some new features, including new WiFi configuration support, Bluetooth 2.1, Blu-ray burning and exFAT support.
Many users that are stuck with Vista are eagerly awaiting this Service Pack, as it has been thought that this Service Pack should improve Vista to the point where it should have been when the OS was released. We think, however, that even with the Service Pack 2 release for Vista, it is possible that it will continue to be overshadowed by the Windows 7 beta, as many users are already reporting much success with after testing it.
