Netbooks to blame

According to Gartner analysts, Acer has managed to outsell Apple in the U.S. market to become the third largest vendor in the States, trailing Dell and HP.

Back in Q3, Apple was in third place with a 9.5 percent market share, and Acer was fourth with 8.9 percent. In Q4, Apple's share dropped to 8 percent, while Acer's market share jumped a massive 70 percent for a total market share of 15.2 percent. The significant increase is attributed to strong sales of Acer's netbooks.

Unlike Dell, HP and Acer, Apple still doesn't have a single netbook in its offer. While the rumor mill keeps griding about a possible Mac netbook, there's still no word on any upcoming product or even proof Cupertino is developing one.
