Apple Corp and EMI can’t seem to agree

As we have told you in the past, the Jobs squad has been trying to get the Beatles on iTunes for a long time now, but it seems that EMI and Apple can’t get the deal done; however, it seems that the fact that the Beatles own Apple Corp. has more to do with why the deal has not come together.

The Beatles catalog continues to be one of the glaring omissions on iTunes. It seems, however, that getting the deal done isn’t for a lack of trying, according to Beatles member Paul McCartney. McCartney claims that from his understanding there are “a couple of sticking points” and that is why it has not happened yet. McCartney also insists that they very much want to get a deal done and they have been pushing hard to make it happen.

EMI needs the permission of Apple Corp. in order to release the Beatles’ music in new formats. The Apple Corp. was set up to act as a holding company to manage the Beatles’ music catalog. EMI claims that they have attempted to secure an agreement, but have been unable to reach such an Agreement with Apple Corp to get the Beatles catalog on iTunes.

In situations like this it normally has more to do with money than anything else, and this is likely the case here. What we do know is that the Beatles, as well as EMI, are missing out on the digital distribution of their music and iTunes is the number one way that people are getting their music these days and the Beatles have not even started tapping into this market.

Sounds like something has got to happen to get a deal done, but as long as they have been trying to make it happen I would not hold my breath on this getting worked out anytime soon.
