Black Friday prices expected to be lowest yet

Industry analysts are expecting the price for flat-panel TVs to drop to the lowest points ever when Black Friday hits, as retailers and manufacturers will shave margins in hopes of moving product. The expected weak spending in the U.S. due to the current economic crisis will make it an excellent time to purchase a flat-panel TV.

The manufacturing capacity has hit highs over the past couple of months, leading to a lot of inventory to sell and manufacturers and retailers who were placing orders for the holiday season back in January at the CES are going to be sitting on a lot of product that they have to sell this holiday season.

The price drops will start after the traditional Black Friday sales and are expected to continue to fall on the run up to the first of the year. Of course, the transition from standard definition to the new high definition format is helping the cause, as many consumers are expected to upgrade this holiday season.

The prices on 32-inch LCD sets that currently are averaging about $600 to $700 could fall as low as $350 when it is all said and done at the retail level, according to analyst projections. The bigger sets that are in the 40-inch range are already starting to head south of the $1,000 price point, which is considered to be the big threshold in the TV market space to gain mass market appeal.

Last holiday season sales of cheaper flat-panel sets were very popular and many consumers were looking for a deal. This year they will not have to look very hard to find a deal, but the low-cost flat-panels will be in competition with Blu-ray, cheap notebooks, and lower-cost console gaming systems for those holiday dollars; and it will be very interesting to see where people are going to spend their money.
