Apple's displays have always been over priced and the new 24in Cinema Display keeps true to tradition, as at US$899 it's anything but cheap. However, it does have some interesting features and it's all set to go with the new MacBook models.

First up, it has a mini DisplayPort connector and as such it's the first display that we're aware of to feature this type of connector; the downside is that you can't use it with a PC, or older Macs, for that matter. It also has a USB 2.0 connector and an L-shaped MagSafe power connector so that you can power your new MacBook from the display without the need of a power brick for your notebook. It also has a three-port USB 2.0 hub, a built in iSight camera and a 2.1 speaker system.

The display is LED backlit, which should improve the evenness of the backlight, although it doesn't seem to improve the brightness or contrast ratio, as they're rated at 330 candela per square meter and 1000:1, respectively. The response time is 14ms, although the specs don't state in terms of what and we presume this is on-off-on rather than grey to grey.

The design is somewhat similar to the new iMacs, but slimmer, with a black bezel and a smaller stand. It's not the best design we've seen from Apple and the stand can only be tilted, so there's very little in the way of adjustment available. The new display will be available from sometime in November.
