Finally, more stuff for Vista Ultimate

So you chose to purchase Windows Vista Ultimate, and one of the reasons that you did so is because you were enticed by Microsoft’s promise of add-ons that would be released as extras only to Vista Ultimate users. So far, these Ultimate Extras have been pretty thin and have consisted of what many believe should have been things included with the OS from the start.

Well, Microsoft has released a few more new things, including a new puzzle game called Tinkers with a Windows sound scheme based on the title. In addition, Microsoft released new additional content for the video-based screen saver called Dreamscape.

Many people have continued to criticize Microsoft for the lack of really good and useful additions for those who ponied up the extra cash for Vista Ultimate. The Ultimate Extras have been less than ultimate, according to many users who have continued to voice their displeasure to Microsoft in online forums.

Those that want to check out the latest extras for Vista Ultimate can find them in the update screen by manually running a Windows Update. Still, while Microsoft never really committed to what would be part of these extras, many users continue to suggest that Microsoft has not delivered anything really useful to this point and they continue to be disappointed.

While users still may feel somewhat dismayed, we suspect that we will not see much more in the way of extras, as Microsoft is putting all of their development efforts behind Windows 7 which is slated for release next year.

As part of Windows 7, Microsoft is already announcing quietly that they will be removing some of the extras that have been a standard part of the OS for some time, so the quantity of extras in the OS we expect will dwindle; and perhaps this is just a precursor to Microsoft’s move to returning to the marketing of a “Plus” package that will be available for purchase in addition to Windows, although no official indication has been made by Microsoft at this time.
