Google thinks about letting users fiddle

Google is
testing software that allows users to fiddle around with query results by re-ranking them and writing comments.

In the company's blog Ben Gomes wrote that he couldn’t say what Google expected from this feature.  In fact, the company was more interested to see how it would be used. If Google incorporates the changes as default features, it is seen as a significant step by the company in giving people power to interact with its search-results pages.

The new functionalities will be available to any user and not just those who have Google accounts. It will solve some of the criticism that Google has suffered from in that depends too much on mathematical algorithms, while giving little room for users to offer feedback and contribute to the process of rating, ranking and evaluating results.

While unlikely to have moved Google much, the appearance of engines such as Mahalo, Yahoo 's Delicious social bookmarking service and Wikia Search which allow some form of interaction.
