Can't come soon enough?

Samsung's next Galaxy flagship could make an appearance at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January.

According to Korean media, the Galaxy S6 launch date has been pulled in, but that's not all. Another variant of the phone, utilising Samsung's Edge design, is also expected to appear.

Chosun Biz reports the company hopes to sell 45 million Galaxy S6 units next year and 10 million of them will feature the double-edge design. Another design change may be in the works - in the form of a half-metal unibody case.

While every Samsung Galaxy S launch is preceded by countless outlandish rumours, news of an early launch does not come as much of a surprise. Samsung missed its Galaxy S5 sales forecasts this year by a mile. Back in June it was reported that Samsung had shipped 15 million units instead of the projected 21 million.

The S5 simply failed to impress and didn't provide much of an improvement over the S4. However, Samsung is not the only smartphone maker dealing with product maturity issues - practically all manufacturers are having a hard time creating truly innovative designs and getting people to upgrade.

Apple is in a somewhat better situation since it introduced two new iPhone sizes, but apart from bigger screens, even the new iPhones didn't offer anything to get excited about.
