A group of hackers calling themselves ‘Guardians of Peace’ have hacked Sony, stolen files and bricked many of the company computers. The group are now rumoured to be blackmailing Sony Pictures in return for the stolen data, although this has not been confirmed.

The attack is said to have crippled the movie company, with staff unable to access any data on their computers. Many have been faced with a screen that reads “Hacked by #GOP. Warning: We’ve already warned you, and this is just the beginning. We have obtained all your internal data including secrets and top secrets.”

Sony have not confirmed the attack, but have admitted there have been some IT issues. Sources inside the company say that a single server was compromised and the attack was spread from there. Staff were sent home because they could not even get onto the internet.
