11.6-inch Windows 8.1 Bay Trail

One might describe this as the return of the netbook, as Asus has started selling its new Eee series notebooks and UK customers can get one for as low as £172.40 in the UK.

This translates to just over €215 or $278 and it is a great price for such a device. Amazon.com has the device listed for pre orders and it will sell it for $199 and will ship them after November 3rd.

The Asus EeeBook X205TA comes with an Intel Atom Z3735F SoC clocked at 1.33GHz and capable of hitting 1.83GHz. It has four cores and 2MB cache, but the chip also has a few limitations - there is no USB 3.0 support and this particular SKU can only handle 2GB of RAM. This is an Atom based on 22nm Bay Trail silicon and it should have no trouble running Windows 8.1. Intel lists these CPUs for $17 if you buy a thousand or more, but if you get a huge quantity you pay less - and that's without any contra-revenue deal.

The notebook, or shall we say netbook, comes with 2GB memory, 32GB flash drive and Windows 8.1 Bing edition. The screen is a 11.6-inch 1366x768 affair and the battery should last up to 12 hours. It weighs just 980 grams or 2.16 pounds and measures 286 x 193.3 x 17.5mm.

If 32GB of flash storage is not enough, Asus is willing to provide 115GB Microsoft OneDrive access free for 2 years (15GB for life) and 500GB ASUS Web Storage free for 2 years. As long as you are online you will have plenty of storage for your stuff.
This netbook comes equipped with 802.11n dual band Wireless and Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 2.0 ports, micro HDMI, micro SD / SDXC and one microphone headphone combo jack. It also comes with front facing VGA camera and 2x2W speakers.

It is available in black, white, red and gold, which is not bad for one of the cheapest Windows 8.1 notebooks around.
