Best Buy Express coming to 12 airports in trial

Best Buy is going to take a stab at opening a new market space with the launch of their new Best Buy Express kiosk program that is set to trial in 12 airports around the U.S. Some of the new Best Buy Express kiosks have already been rolled out, while others will be in coming weeks.

Once the initial roll out of 12 airports is completed, you will be able to find Best Buy Express kiosks in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, and San Francisco, with the additional locations to be announced at later date. Best Buy expects to have all of the trial kiosks in place before September 1st, according to reports.

The Best Buy Express kiosks will offer products such as media players, unlocked cell phones, digital cameras, portable gaming devices, as well as computer related products. Of course, the bread and butter of these kiosks will be in offering the batteries, flash cards, chargers, headphones, and electronics consumables that are often needed.

While Best Buy has not indicated the exact position/terminal of the Best Buy Express kiosks or whether you will need to pass airport security to access them, it does appear to be an area that could hold significant promise for Best Buy, depending on how well they are received, which could mostly hinge on the pricing of the products within the kiosk.

According to Best Buy, they expect the products in the kiosk to be sold at prices comparable to those of their stores. We would not expect any deals, however, because floor space in these airports for kiosks is expensive and the kiosks will have to turn a profit for the business model to be viable.
