iPhone 6 and 6 Plus reviews are up and they are good

All of a sudden Apple reviewers love big screens

Apple is dancing the same dance year after year. It releases the iPhone and two days before they start shipping it lets a few key tech news outlets post a review.

It’s no surprise that all of them are favourable and make Apple look good, as it is offering what users demanded.

CNET likes the big and bigger screen, improved LTE and 802.11ac WiFI, better camera autofocus and optional storage of up to 128GB, as well as the NFC payment service. It is not too happy about the battery life, or the lack of optical stabilization on the 4.7-inch model.

The Verge likes the fantastic camera on the iPhone 6, gorgeous 4.7-inch display as well as excellent performance and battery life, while it doesn’t dig the lack of optimization for the bigger screen on the 6 Plus. Unsightly lines on the back and the fact that the camera lens protrudes were also an issue for Verge reviewers.

iPhone 6 Plus gets more criticism

In their iPhone 6 Plus review the Verge gets a bit more critical. It states that the phone probably needs the case, while iOS on a 5.5-inch screen tends to be glitchy since apps cannot take advantage of the big screen. The paste icon in landscape mode isn't good, either.

Engadget was criticizing the one hand operating mode on 6 Plus model as the top of the screen goes down making it easier to use. They say that iPhone 6 Plus "one-handed use is frustrating and uncomfortable" and lack of NFC use for other apps. They like the large 5.5-display, great camera with optical stabilization, long battery and fast performance.

They didn’t like the iPhone 6 battery life, lack of optical stabilization and lack of NFC access for anything other than Apple Pay. Engadget thinks that the iPhone 6 has sleek new design, great display, great performance, generally good camera and is comfortable to hold.

The iPhone lovers will love iPhone 6

Apple users don’t really easily migrate from iPhones to Android or Windows phones, so we are certain that Apple will once again sell tens of millions of these premium phones, but Android lovers will never stop to teasing them about Apple’s decision to include bigger screens and other features common in Android phones.

Fudzilla thinks Apple did a good job, especially on the SoC front, but at the same time we will miss the compactness of the 5 series. For years Android phones tended to be much bigger than iPhones, making iPhone 4 and 5 series products a great choice for users looking for a compact powerhouse in a very stylish and distinct package. With the 6 series much of that feeling of compactness and originality is gone.
