Sleeping Dogs headed to next-gen?

by on16 June 2014

Remastered HD version coming in November

Sources tell us that Square-Enix and developer United Front are preparing a remastered HD version of Sleeping Dogs for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. If the whispers are true, this next-gen edition will include the additional content already released for the game as well.

The reason for the decision to do a next-gen version seems to be rooted in two reasons. The first is that they already have a PC version of the game which makes getting it remastered in HD easier and the time to get it up and running on the next-gen consoles is minimal.

The second reason is to help promote the title and get new players acquainted with series ahead of the release of Triad Wars which is the next chapter in the Sleeping Dogs franchise, which is expected to arrive in late 2015 or early 2016.

It also can’t hurt that buyers of the next-gen consoles want new content to play and because there is really so little of it, the decision to release Sleeping Dogs for next-gen will lead to additional sales as we believe that it will carry a reduced price tag when it is released in November.

While it was never really that big of a hit, the truth of the matter is that it is quite a good game and as many found out when they got a chance to play it for free as part of the Xbox Games with Gold promotion on the Xbox 360. This is sure to attract some new players and that should help things when the new franchise arrives.
