It's just twice as popular and rakes in more cash

Bloomberg
had a rather interesting chat with Sony Corp. CEO Howard Stringer, in which he claims that Nintendo's Wii console is no match for Sony's PlayStation 3.

"Wii isn't a rival to the PlayStation 3 because it doesn't offer the broader features of the Sony console, including the ability to watch movies and access the Internet," says Stringer. He claims to have tried out Nintendo's milky white toy and goes on to say getting a PS3 the best way to buy a Blu-ray player. Again.

We're not sure when Internet access and movies became the main selling points for game consoles, nor when buying a PlayStation became the best way getting a Blu-ray player, but we guess one of Sony's head honchos knows what he's talking about.

Nintendo's PR did not comment on Stringer's remarks, as they were probably having trouble overcoming a series of violent, spasm-inducing fits of laughter.

For the record, Nintendo's Blu-ray-less Wii has sold around 25 million units thus far, leisurely outselling Sony's PS3 by a ratio of two to one.
