Apple unlikely to refresh iPads

by on17 February 2014

Tablet market dying

It is starting to look like Apple will not get around to releasing any new tablet refreshes this year, other than the iPad Air. Everyone had been waiting to see the rumoured 12.9-inch model unlikely to launch, and a successor to the iPad mini with Retina display.

However it is starting to look like Jobs’ Mob has dropped the ball when it comes it tablets. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities issued a report in which he predicted that overall iPad shipments will decline this year. As a result he expects that the iPad Air will be the only iPad model to see a refresh in 2014, gaining a next-generation A8 processor and Touch ID fingerprint sensor late in the third quarter of the year. Kuo added that the development of the next iPad Air and a new 12.9-inch iPad will be the main focus for Apple in the tablet market this year.

He feels that the chances of a new iPad mini model in the second half of 2014 are "slim." As for the new, larger 12.9-inch mode, sometimes referred to as an "iPad Pro” it will not be in the shops until next year at the earliest. Kuo thinks that the 12.9-inch iPad will do well but it needs a revised operating system to take advantage of the larger display.

What is funny is that Jobs’ Mob is wasting time finishing the operating system for "iWatch" vapourware which is supposed to launch this year after been on the books for ages.
