Scientists claim to have created the world's first DNA molecule made from artificial parts, paving the way for DNA based nano-sized PCs. For years scientists have tried to develop artificial versions of DNA to take advantage of its amazing data storage capabilities. Organic electronic circuits have been built but these are pretty basic.

Masahiko Inouye and colleagues at the University of Toyama used stitched together four new, artificial bases inside the sugar-based framework of a DNA molecule, creating unusually stable, double-stranded structures resembling natural DNA. Now that they have built the thing, they now have to work out how to store their porn collection, pirated MP3s and anything else they don’t anyone else to find on the DNA strand.
