DataWind 7-inch tablet launches for £30

by on17 December 2013

Starting at $38 in US

The market is flooded with sub-€100 and $100 tablets and most of them are coming from Chinese white-box manufactures. By default they have a lousy screen and a subpar user experience.

DataWind, the Indian company behind the Aakash 2 education tablet, is finally making it available in western markets, namely the UK and US. The UbiSlate 7Ci is the cheapest version and it features a 7-inch TFT capacitive display, 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of flash storage, front VGA camera and Android 4.0.3. You cannot expect miracles for the money and the capacitive display supports 800x480 resolution.

Ubislate 7C+ has a similar specification, but it comes with a 3G modem and even with free year of unlimited basic mobile internet, all for £69.99.

The most expensive of them Ubislate 3G7 comes with a 1020x600 display, 4GB storage, 512MB RAM, SD card support, USB 2.0, Bluetooth, 1.2GHz dual core, 3G sim card support and Bluetooth 2.1. This one costs £129.99 and also comes with a year of unlimited basic mobile internet. It does not sound like much of a deal, there are better alternatives out there.

The specs are not impressive but at £29.99 this is the cheapest tablet you can buy. It will let you browse the internet and play some basic games, so it’s good enough for kids, all for the price of a decent lunch for two.

They are all listed and available for purchase here.
