USB hardware workaround

If you haven't heard about EFiX before, don't worry, as it's a new product that isn't available for purchase just yet. EFiX is a small USB dongle that attaches to a USB header on your motherboard and it contains a firmware that tricks Mac OSX to think that your PC is a Mac.

With a built-in graphical boot selector, easy software installation and firmware upgrades from within Mac OSX, the team behind EFiX promises a lot and has yet to deliver. However, in terms of general hardware problems, we wouldn't expect them to run into too many issues, as PC and Mac hardware are quite similar today; although as Apple doesn't support AMD, neither does EFiX, so don't get your hopes up if you've got an AMD system.

There are two different USB versions of EFiX, one basic model and a more advanced model that ads built-in sound and a USB hub. The reason for this is because the soundcard support in OSX is somewhat limited in comparison to what you'd have on a PC.

Judging by the Website, a PCI and notebook version of the EFiX is also in the works and there's a list of tested hardware on the Website, although for now it seems like the EFiX only works with Gigabyte motherboards, although there's a fairly wide range of other hardware supported.
