More Tegra Note tablet photos emerge

by on04 September 2013

Not much to look at

The first images of Nvidia’s upcoming Tegra Note tablet leaked out a few weeks ago and now there’s a whole bunch of them, thanks to tech site ChinaDIY.

The photos show a 7-inch device with some rather questionable design features. Probably the best thing about it is that it appears to feature a pair of front-facing speakers. However, the rest of the design just doesn’t look too good at ll. The back is cluttered, the pitted texture is borrowed from the Nexus 7, while the whole matte-rubber-black gloss approach just doesn’t seem to work well.

However, this might not be the final design. The wide gaps and some issues with the finish scream pre-production unit, so there’s still a chance Nvidia will get it right by the time it rolls out.

Things are looking a lot better under the bonnet. It is said to feature a Tegra 4 clocked at 1.8GHz, 2GB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear camera and a 7-inch 1280x768 display. A stylus is also on board, along with HDMI. The relatively low resolution indicates that the tablet won’t go after premium 7-inchers like the new Nexus 7, but it also means that it has to end up cheaper.

This sort of makes sense, as previous attempts at a Nexus-killer have, ahem, failed miserably. Nvidia apparently wants to go a bit cheaper and take on entry-level tablets from the likes of Acer, Asus and Lenovo, along with Chinese white-box outfits. Now all we have to find out is the actual price. If it ends up cheaper than $199 it might do well. If not, it will probably flop, as most people would much rather have a higher resolution screen than a marginally faster processor.
