Microsoft talks very little about 360

by on11 June 2013

Says plenty of games coming and shows three

Of course, the focus of the Microsoft Press Conference for E3 was all about the Xbox One and we didn’t expect it to be otherwise. In a nod to the current generation of Xbox 360 owners, Microsoft made sure that when Yusuf Medhi took the stage they knew they were not forgotten.

Medhi first assured Xbox 360 owners that plenty of new games were in development, with a solid lineup to be released this year. In addition, he showed off a brand new Xbox 360 that featured styling that was influenced by the Xbox One. The new Xbox 360 is smaller and quieter, but does apparently carry the same price tag of $299 that the current system offering does. Still, it is expected that these cost reductions in the new console position Microsoft with the ability to slash the price this holiday season.

Three games for the Xbox 360 were shown. The Xbox 360 is getting its own exclusive version of World of Tanks that is going to be free and coming this summer. It looked good from what we could see in the in-game footage. The Xbox 360 version of World of Tanks will use the Xbox 360 controller, and Wargaming CEO Victor Kisley says that special attention was paid to the controller interface.

In addition to World of Tanks for the 360, a new sequel to Max and the Magic Marker is coming from Press Play called Max: The Curse of the Brotherhood. To finish the press conference, the first trailer for the new Dark Souls 2 was shown for the Xbox 360 and it looked good.

Medhi also announced that Xbox Live Gold subscribers would be getting two free game downloads starting July 1st and this would last every month till the Xbox One launches. The two free games for July will be Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed 2. No word on what other games might be in the works, but Fable III is currently a free download right now.
