Settles patent litigation

HP has announced that it has entered into a confidential settlement agreement with Acer that resolves all claims asserted in three U.S. Federal court lawsuits and two U.S. International Trade Commission investigations between the parties.

Acer filed suit against Hewlett-Packard Development Company last October for patent infringement, alleging violation of seven of Acer’s patents. HP had sued Acer the previous March alleging patent infringement and attempting to block Acer from selling some of its products in the U.S.; this action resulted in Acer filing a countersuit against HP last July.

The settlement agreement should mean that both companies will now try to get along; each legal action between Acer and HP will be dismissed, according to a statement issued by both companies.

Financial details as to the settlement were not released or made available.
