EA to continue 360 & PS3 support

Written by David Stellmack

Titles to keep flowing till at least 2017

As our attention has been turning to the new next generation of consoles, many are already asking us how long we think the major publishers will continue to support the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Well, Electronic Arts is one of the first to announce that it intends to keep the titles coming for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 till at least 2017, which is another four years of new games.

The company has not gotten too specific, but we know that all of the major EA releases this year will be coming for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, including all of the sports franchises. This is good news for those who are already questioning the need to spend the kind of money that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are likely to cost.

During E3, we expect more publishers to announce their strategy going forward for releases on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and how much longer they will continue to develop for these platforms before moving to the new next generation consoles.

Right now, we believe that the best way to answer the question of how much longer we can expect titles for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is best answered by saying that as long as titles are still selling for those consoles, for the time being you likely have nothing to worry about. Two more years of new titles seems almost assured, and that might even extend into three years, depending on the sales of the new next generation consoles.
