.Mac becomes Mac me

Anyone
who has suffered Microsoft's Windows Me system would think that the name is contaminated with memories of an overbloated dysfunctional system offered in far too much of a hurry. But for some reason the good people at Apple seem to think it is a good idea to take up from where Microsoft has fled.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Apple is to rebrand its ".Mac" Web, synchronization and email services next week, using the name Mobile Me. The idea is to update and revamp the services, which are about as dull as a Belgium soap opera filmed by a Swedish movie director (Lars might find this offensive, sub.ed.).

Apple is being its usual secretive self about the name change.  The Daily Telegraph said that the only way anyone found out was that a potential replacement string "mobile.me" had been placed deep inside the iPhone Software Development Kit.

Apple has also bought the "mobile.me" domain in 2007 and reserved the trademark.
