Samsung hired students to bash HTC phones?

by on16 April 2013

Sneaky and cheap

Taiwanese authorities have launched an investigation in connection with allegations that Samsung hired students to post malicious comments about rival products online.

Samsung allegedly hired a bunch of kids to plaster the internet with negative comments about HTC phones. If the allegations are proven true, Samsung might face a hefty fine, up to $835,000. In addition, it just looks bad.

The allegations came to light after Internet users in Taiwan reported that Samsung’s local agent had hired students to write articles attacking HTC and recommending Samsung phones instead.

"The case was set up last week after we received complaints," Taiwanese Fair Trade Commission spokesman Sun Lih-chyun told AFP.

Samsung is not exactly denying the allegations, either. Samsung Taiwan issued a statement, saying it regrets any inconvenience and confusion it might have caused. It also halted all internet marketing, but the damage has already been done.
