Amazon's Kindle gets boost
5,000 more titles
Publisher Simon & Schuster has said that it will make 5,000 more books available for the Amazon Kindle wireless reader, bumping to 125,000 the number of titles users can download.
Amazon.com Chief Executive Jeff Bezos said Kindle e-books now account for 6 percent of sales among the 125,000 titles available on the site in both electronic and print formats. The company cut the Kindle's price by $40 in a bit to push sales of the reader. While there are clearly advantages for Amazon in selling ebooks, so far it has had difficulty getting the big publishers to back it.
The Simon & Schuster deal could be seen as a sea change on the part of the bigger names to back the technology.
