Just after the pumped up talk about Alienware desktops taking over the Dell XPS range was put to rest, Alienware announced a new update to its high-end Area-51 ALX desktop.
As of today, the Area-51 ALX will offer Intel's 3.2GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9770 overclocked to 4.0GHz. This one will, of course, be packed with water-cooling, as this high overclock just wouldn't be very healthy with air cooling.
This overclocked Intel quad-core beauty with 12MB of cache and the FSB set at 1,600MHz will force you to pack the new Area-51 ALX with 1,200W of PSU power.
The only drawback with Alienware hardware is, as always, the price, which this time stands at US $6,119 for the non-overclocked version, and it climbs to a stunning US $6,569 when you decide to go for the 4.0GHz model.
The price does, of course, include dual 1GB Nvidia Geforce 9800GX2 graphics cards, as it just won't be a high-end system without those.
