Halo 2 PC servers to be turned off

by on18 January 2013

Max player count only hitting about 20

Microsoft has announced that it will be pulling the plug on the PC Halo 2 servers after six years. The reason for the decision to do so is simply that there are not enough people playing the Halo 2 on the PC any longer to justify keeping the service servers running.

The decision was made easier after the company monitored the number players playing the game and found that the server had only been peaking with a maximum of about 20 players for months. Owners of the PC version of Halo 2 will be able to continue to play the Multiplayer of LAN after the plug is pulled on Microsoft’s Halo servers.

While we hate to see Halo 2 on the PC get its servers pulled, you can understand Microsoft’s reasoning. If people are not playing on them, there is no reason to keep them going. In the meantime, if you want to sneak in a last game or two, now would be the time to move on it; Microsoft plans to pull the plug on February 15th.
