Usage logs point to iOS7, new iPhone

iPhone 6.1

Developers have started coming across traces of a new iPhone and iOS 7 in app usage logs. The new iPhone in set to launch in mid-2013.

The usage logs point to a new iOS version, as well as a new iPhone, identified at the “iPhone 6.1.” The iPhone 5 bears the “iPhone 5.2” or “iPhone 5.1” moniker depending on the version. OS and device data can be faked, but developers claim the IP footprint leads back to Cupertino, so everything appears legit.

But what can we expect from the new iPhone? NFC would be a nice touch, but there doesn’t seem to be much room for improvement. Apple is widely expected to retain the new 4-inch screen and form factor so we don’t expect any major design changes as far as aesthetics are concerned. A new A15-based processor is a possibility, and as usual Apple will probably try to take the lead in the camera department.
