XP SP3 glitch limited to HP
Although no one is saying that
The glitch in the SP3 patch for Windows XP which causes multiple boot ups seems limited to HP machines that are running AMD chips. So far, Microsoft has not officially named HP, but its own message board discussion of the glitch focuses entirely on HP machines with AMD chips.
A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed that the company has yet to find any issues with any manufacturer other than HP. According to the Microsoft article, system crashes and repeated reboots stem from an orphaned registry key that remains on non-Intel PCs receiving an SP1 Sysprep image created on an Intel processor-based computer.
Under this configuration, after the computer is upgraded to Windows XP SP2 or SP3, the Intel processor driver may try to load and reboot.
