Free Battlefield 1942 via Origin to celebrate 10 years

DICE has a surprise for PC fans of their popular Battlefield franchise: as a thank you to the fans on the PC for supporting and helping grow the franchise, DICE is giving away Battlefield 1942 as a free download from Origin.

The decision to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Battlefield on the PC was apparently an easy one for DICE. PC players can grab a copy of Battlefield 1942 by downloading it from Origin on their PC.

In other news, DICE confirmed today that Battlefield Premium membership has passed the 2 million mark in sales. Next up for DICE will be the release of Battlefield 4, which we know will be coming out next year and our sources say that DICE is targeting an October release if at all possible and we suspect that is when we will see it released. A closed beta is expected for the game that will start in the mid to late summer if DICE sticks with their current timeline.
