NeoGeo X on track for release

Written by David Stellmack

Will arrive before the end of the year

The revival of the NeoGeo with the NeoGeo X portable is still on track for release before the end of the year. The portable version of the system will feature 20 NeoGeo classic titles built-in to the portable console, as we have written about previously.

The big news, however, is that the first of the NeoGeo X GameCards has been announced. The first NeoGeo Game Card will be Ninja Masters. The news confirms that the plan is to release additional titles on Game Cards. While no additional details have been announced, sources confirm that, if popular, we will see a number of additional titles released for the NeoGeo X.

The 20 NeoGeo titles that will come with the unit are now confirmed. The unit will include:  3 Count Bout, Art Of Fighting, Alpha Mission II,  Baseball Stars II,  Cyber Lip, Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury Special, The King Of Fighters '95, King Of The Monsters, Last Resort, League Bowling, Magician Lord, Metal Slug, Mutation Nation, Nam 1975, Puzzled, Real Bout - Fatal Fury Special, Samurai Showdown II, Super Sidekicks, and  World Heroes Perfect.

Also confirmed is a NeoGeo X Gold Limited Edition that will include: NeoGeo X Handheld, NeoGeo docking station, NeoGeo X Arcade Stick, power supply, HDMI Cable, A/V Out Cable, Quick Start Guide, and Ninja Masters Game Card.

Distribution channels and dealers are being lined up to carry the NeoGeo X. You should be able to pre-order the unit soon, but pricing still seems to be a bit of a mystery. We are hearing whispers that the cost of the unit will be about $275 for the Limited Edition bundle, with the basic NeoGeo X portable to be about $200 or perhaps a little less. No word yet on how much the additional titles on Game Cards will be sold for.
